Description
This collection of about 800 documents, called by Trotsky the 'Lenin-Trotsky correspondence', was acquired by the International Institute of Social History (IISG) in Amsterdam in 1936. The Institute published this correspondence in two volumes in 1964 and 1971 under the name "The Trotsky Papers". The documents are in fact only a selection from the correspondence between Lenin and Trotsky, and also contain texts sent to (or from) other people, mainly in the Soviet government.
In this publication the original (mostly Russian) version is printed on the even left-hand pages and an English translation on the facing right-hand side. Extensive footnotes follow both versions (in English only).
The collection was edited and annotated by Jan M. Meijer. Volume 1 contains the first 435 of these documents.
