Man of letters, took part in the fifth congress of the IWA, 1872, as a delegate of the Munich (München) section.

Moritz Rittinghausen (* 10 November 1814[2] in Hückeswagen; † 29 December 1890 in Ath, Belgium) was a German advocate and theorist of direct democracy, early socialist and politician. He lived for a time in Belgium during the Vormärz and already emerged there as a socio-political thinker. As a democrat, he took an active part in the revolution of 1848/49. After emigrating during the era of reaction, he returned to Germany in the course of the New Era and began to get involved in the workers' movement. He was one of the co-founders of the Social Democratic Workers' Party and was a member of the Reichstag before being expelled from the parliamentary group after differences.
