Information on former states can often be found under the names of modern countries. Arbitrary choises have been made. For example, materials on the Songhai empire are stored under Mali. But the literature on a few former "communist" countries, like the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia, remains under those headings.
